    Hi

The best and only book in my opinion would be SANS 10142-1 Edition 2

If you don't have it, and understand it, you should not be even thinking about touching electrical

I'm coming from the UK where we have different options for domestic electrical installers, installation electricians and maintenance electricians. When I last looked you had SABS 0142 wiring regulations. I have obtained a copy of the SANS 10142 as recommended by you to read. I am very up to date with industrial equipment but I imagine domestic installation will have particularly stringent requirements in the RSA.

            Hi

The SABS was replaced with SANS - The wiring regulations whether industrial , commercial , domestic all remain the same.

There's no 'limited scope' or 'Part-P' shortcut to becoming an electrician in South Africa. There's also no OSG type guide book either, just the regs.

Thank you for your demystifying link. I have noticed mentioned a Single Phrase Electrical Tester , Installation Electrician and Master Installation Electrician. How do you progress from one to the other?

                  Hi

Registering as a Single , Installation or Master depends on your qualifications and the industry that you have experience in.

I have attached the information Brochure on the requirements by Department of Labour

                      "you tube for everything "

Maybe that is how you missed the new edition of SANS and the Change in COC documentation

Actually not Dave. All my wood working skills were learnt from youtube. If i need to find out how to do something i go to youtube.

With regards to the COC and new SANS edition, after doing a refresher course at the ECA many years ago i realised how screwed this industry was back then. I am sure nothing has improved in the past 15 years.

I still work hands on, just finished 2 factories a 400 amp and an 800 amp supply, cable trays, cabling and connected all the machines. I had to laugh when the property management sent around people to check my work. Every single person who walks into the factory comments about the "attention to detail". Maybe i am 15 years behind with the paper work, watching 2 companies carry out inspection reports in my factory, i am glad i havent wasted my time.
