A question ... back in the green book day you could purchase updates... remove the pages and replace with the new updates ... I take it this no longer applies.
This is ridiculous! I got Ed 3 near the begging of the year and now its basically invalid.... what a farce... in the UK you get those individule pages and ammendments and they are free ! Here we need to purchase the whole book....
Table of changes
Change No. Date Scope
Amdt 1 2021 Amended to move reference to legislation and
to an association to the foreword, to update
the clauses on compliance, fundamental
requirements, installation requirements,
special installations or locations, and on
verification and certification, and to update the
annex on classification of safety services
necessary for medical locations.
Comments are based on opinion...not always facts....that's why people use an alias.

Talk about pissed off ... I thought I would do the right thing and buy ed 3 on the 8/11/2021 for over a R1000 ... and just spent another R1000+ this morning to see a few minor changes
That is how it worked here in the past ... you purchased the book and them got the new updates and removed the old pages and slotted in the new pages ... maybe it still works like that here ... I am sure someone tell update us.

We need to form a small group and chip in some bucks and then we can share it and get all the new amendments and print those pages to add to our current books hahaha. Another grand for the new book is crazy....just dropped 450 to get my nose tickled and told negative on a test so my missus can go to work Monday... this country is taking the piss and just want us to pay pay pay with nothing in return

Ahhh man so sorry ! It is so crazy, we get these books to stay informed, how many other electricians purchase these books and keep them up to date... I wager not many at all!
ED 3.01 is now on my Christmas wish list...
Those changes that you mentioned, are they major and warrents getting the update sooner than later or can it hold off a bit?
The message you sent they seem like major and important changes and info
eference is made in 3.10 to the "relevant national legislation". In South Africa
this means the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993).
Amdt 1
Reference is made in 3.31 and note 2 to clause 8 to the "relevant national
legislation". In South Afirca this means the Engineering Profession Act, 2000
(Act No. 46 of 2000). Amdt 1
Reference is made in 6.2.3.1 to the "relevant national association". In
South Africa this means the Association of Electric Cable Manufactures of
South Africa. Amdt 1
Reference is made in note 2 to clause 8 to the "relevant national regulation".
In South Africa this means regulation 5(6) of the Electrical Installation
Regulations, 2009, of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993
(Act No. 85 of 1993). Amdt 1
The test report in edition 3 may be used in parallel with the test report in
edition 3.1 for a period of 12 months from the date of publication of edition 3.1.

5.3.2 Voltage drop
5.3.2.1 When all conductors of an a.c. installation are carrying their maximum
estimated load, the difference in voltage (the voltage drop) between the point
of supply and any point of outlet or terminals of fixed appliances shall not
exceed 5 % of the standard voltage or of the declared phase-to-neutral
voltage (see also 6.2.7).
f) where the distribution board is concealed by a cupboard or other covering,
the notice for live electrical apparatus referred to in annex N shall be in a
conspicuous place indicating the position of the distribution board.
5.4.2 Voltage
The equipment shall be suitable for operation on the maximum steady (r.m.s.)
voltage and overvoltage to which it is likely to be subjected. Equipment shall
be rated in accordance with the intended application for use on one of the
following voltages used in South Africa:
a) A.C. circuits:
1) standard voltages at a point of supply of Amdt 1
6.2.3 Basis of tabulated current-carrying capacity
6.2.3.1 The current-carrying capacity of conductors and cables set out in this
clause takes account of IEC standards, where applicable. For types of cable
not covered in the relevant IEC publication (for example, armoured cables)
the current-carrying capacity given in this clause is based on data provided by
the relevant national association (see foreword). Amdt 1

6.2.7 Voltage drop
6.2.7.1 Difference in voltage (voltage drop)
6.2.7.1.1 When all conductors of an a.c. installation are carrying their design
load, the difference in voltage (the voltage drop) between the point of supply
and any point of outlet or terminals of fixed appliances shall not exceed 5 %
of the standard or declared voltage. (See 5.3.2, 5.4.2 and annex D.)
6.2.7.1.2 In the case of a 230/400 V system, the voltage drop for single-phase
circuits shall not exceed 11,5 V (5 % of 230 V) and the voltage drop for
three-phase circuits shall not exceed 20 V (5 % of 400 V). Amdt 1
6.2.7.1.3 In the case of single-phase circuits derived from three-phase
supplies with balanced loading, the phase-to-neutral voltage drop is calculated
from three-phase values divided by
3 . Amdt 1
6.2.7.1.4 For multiple installations connected in series (for example housing
schemes, etc) refer to 5.4.2 for overal voltage drop requirements. Amdt 1
NOTE 1 If the phase-to-neutral voltage is not declared, the value can be calculated by
dividing the phase-to-phase voltage by 1,73.
NOTE 2 Deleted by amendment No. 1.
6.2.7.1.5 When all conductors of a d.c. installation are carrying their
maximum estimated load, the difference in voltage (the voltage drop) between
any point of supply and any point of consumption shall not exceed 5 % of the
circuit nominal voltage or shall comply with the requirements of the
manufacturer of the equipment connected to the circuit. Amdt 1

6.5.2.2 Electrical continuity
Rigid metallic wireways shall be electrically continuous and be connected to
earth as close as possible to the source. Amdt 1
Comments are based on opinion...not always facts....that's why people use an alias.
NOTE It is recommended that earth leakage protection be installed in all circuits
that supply socket-outlets in existing installations prior to earth leakage becoming
compulsory. Amdt 1
6.7.7 External lightning protection
NOTE Where external lightning protection is installed, it should be in accordance with
the requirements of SANS 10313. Amdt 1
6.12.1 Earth continuity conductors
6.12.1.1 An earth continuity conductor shall
a) consist of compatible conductors,
b) if it forms part of a cable other than a flexible cable, comply with the relevant
requirements of the standard for the cable,
c) if it forms part of a flexible cable, be of the same material as, and have a
nominal cross-sectional area at least equal to, that of the largest phase
conductor,
d) be able to carry the prospective fault current without excessive temperature
rise of the conductor, within the disconnecting time,
e) if it does not form part of a cable or flexible cable, have a nominal
cross-sectional area in accordance with table 6.25 and if it equals to the
phase conductor size refer to table 6.28(a), as follows: Amdt 1
