Convert domestic 3 Phase to single phase

So I'm getting into solar and starting with my own home.

Supply on my street is both 3 and single phase - not sure how they decided back in the day.

I have a 3 phase meter and supply and DB board. I don't have 3-phase machinery or need for 3-phase.

Solar would be simpler and cheaper to install on single phase.

Are there merits in blanking off the 2 other phases, just using one and converting my DB to single? I understand the load balancing issue to the municipality but I'm sure, in the bigger scheme of things, it won't make a difference.

    Thoughts and pitfalls if any?

The simplest way to explain it, the supply to the property is determined by the estimated load, a big house in a upmarket area, with lots of electrical devices would require a 3 phase.

A house with 2 granny flats might require a 3 phase supply.

I do believe you pay extra for the privilege.

It might make financial sense to apply to down grade to single phase. Blanking off 2 phases wouldn't make sense. You can use a single phase inverter on a property that has 3 phase. Its all about balancing the load.
Comments are my opinion, unless regulations are attached to support the comment. This is social media, not a court room.

With solar though if you make it single phase then the excess solar can then go backwards to then power the non essential loads with the use of a CT.

If you now use other two phases for the non essential then you can not make use of the excess solar.

Unless you to 3 phase inverter

Almost every house that is 3 has gone to single phase when the inverter and solar arrives.
