    mA clamp meter

    Hello

Anyone have a mA clamp meter that can measure from like 1mA and 30mA etc, i.e 0.01A to 0.03Amps?

I want to see what the installation has on the total earth leakage.

There are a couple i found in the UK but want to see if anyone has a cheapish one that I can get locally ?

      @Dylboy.

      I use my plug tester.
First trip earth leakage on it's own without whole installation connected.
      25mA ok.

Now connect whole installation and trip again.

If it now trips at 20mA, you know the installation has a 5mA leakage.

I have a Majortech 2434 Tester that works well for tracing earth leakage currents down to 0.1 mA. I recalled it didn't cost that much at the time (got it for my peeps when Andy did his wonderful thread on tracking down earth leakage faults). But looking at the list price of it now as just under R7k?
Check around for pricing, I guess. But a nice unit.

          Thanks all! Appreciate it !

I see in the UK there is this Handyman Tek77 something that is converted like R2k that a lot of them rave about.

GCE which uni T model do you have if you dont mind sharing as seen a few of them here and they don't seem so bad.

That major tech one is awesome but ya that price is massive for me hahaha.

I basically want to see if I get that UK funny one or one locally such as the UNI T.

These are not cheap things but often for peace of mind I'll pay a lot and I think it's time I add this tool

I have had a unit like this for many years. It is a little bulky for tight DB's, but for the range of systems I work on, it works for me. Nice big clamp for those 3 phase cables

Beware buying online, I hear of so many bad deals.

Find a wide selection of other power tools for sale in Parow on Gumtree online classifieds. Shop local and find secondhand diy tools from sellers in your area and throughout South Africa.

I have the UT278A - I paid around 12K a couple years back but bought it for earth resistance testing - The ELU testing was bonus - There are others in the range
We are only buying the Uni T meters now as they seem to take the knock and have been reliable over the past couple years

                  Awesome thank you!

Also glad to hear some feed back about them. I have seen their Multifunction tester around 16K and seems pretty good and has the no trip function. May try it but glad to hear some feedback on brand as I don't quite know it

I've used one of these as my everyday carry leakage tester for at least the last 5 years

I think back in the day I paid under R2k for mine but even at just under R3k it's not a bad price for an instrument made by a premium manufacturer.

It's not particularly accurate for spot readings below about 5mA but it works well for me. It will give you pretty accurate comparative readings down to about 2mA. The type of clamp it has makes it a very flexible tester (pun intended) especially if you regularly work on 3-phase where you'd be clamping 3 lives and possibly a neutral simultaneously to get a live leakage reading. They also do a variant with a longer clamp for an extra couple of hundred bucks.

I also sometimes use a Kyoritsu K2434 that Dave highlighted. Great tester, I've always liked Kyoritsu but quite pricey nowadays I see.

Ahhh that is very cool and not bad price at all! I like the large clamp as well.

                            Thank you for sharing !

I have seen that brand and was not sure of it's quality but glad to hear some feedback and that it is pretty decent
